ratingOverall experience

I am very happy to be in such an academic environment. The whole state of Pennsylvania is not known to be very rich. So people who come here from nearby cities are all from small towns and cities. They are really hardworking and competitive. The professors are very resourceful and helpful too. And of course, the weather is really extreme in winter.

The admissions @ penn state is very competitive in all depts. Except electrical which is known to be liberal with admits. Funding in electrical is not very easy though some people manage to work in labs for a year without fundin and convert their MS to PhD and eventually end up funded. Visa was easy. All you have to do is have valid documents and be confident. Pls avoid mentioning works like Biotechnology, nuclear, space science etc. even if your research interests fall under these categories. Cook up a harmless(accordin to them) research interest to tell them. What I told them "controlling traffic in computer networks" which is nowhere close to my research

The funding situation in Electrical engineering dept is not that good. No funding for MS students.

The course is very nice and well planned. The professors give us a tentative plan of the course which help us to know what the course is about, which is the best part. Hours of lecture depend on the course taken by the student. Roughly 20 hrs a week is for studies. The facilities are awesome like a huge gym, swimming pools and tennis courts etc. The course and exposure I get here is surely worth the money I am spending. The professors are very nice and friendly and their method of teaching is also very simple which makes us understand the concepts. All the lecture notes are uploaded on the net for easy access.

Many activities happen on campus. Recently we all celebrated diwali night with food, fun and music. Lots of restaurants to eat. There are many clubs and organizations on campus among which is an Indian association. The downtown area is really nice with lots of malls and eat outs. State College is a fun city to study in. Penn state Football rocks.

There are many on campus career fairs for recruitments. The market is slowly improving. There is an alumni network which help with placements.
